Good Morning, World

I just slept for almost 12 hours. Have no idea how that happened.
This morning, I’m off to work. I have a doctors appointment at 1.
Tonight, it will be dinner with friends.
I’m craving Johnnies.
That pretty much sums it up.

Slow Tuesday Night

It’s official. I’ve decided that I will not accept friend requests from people on facebook that I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting in real life. Or at least exchanged emails with. It’s gotten too weird, and I like my privacy.
Great day at work. I’m so proud of our team. Zero errors in 9 days! They rock.
Last night, hubs and I made shrimp and grits for dinner. Yum. Recipe here. I will definitely make some modifications for next time, like add cheddar cheese, and use pepper bacon and instant grits. We used half and half instead of heavy cream, and that turned out ok, though. Tomorrow night I’m thinking Chicken a la King, with flaky pie crust wedges.
This weekend, hubs is heading to Vegas for work. He’s finagled three nights free at the Wynn. I’m so depressed that I can’t go. C’est la vie.
One last, final, random thought. Today’s drive from Dallas to OKC prompted some thinking about this blog, and I felt like I had to make some conclusions. I LOVE blogs–design blogs, scrapbook blogs, stamping blogs, photography blogs, wedding blogs, paper blogs. Love, love, love them. The people out there who blog are SO inspiring. I can only hope that someday I can be as inspiring to others as well, but here’s the thing: I don’t think it’s going to happen on this blog. Sure, I’d like for it to. I’d like to be some super savvy great blogger who posts the best scoop first on a spectacular site. But, let’s be realistic: that’s not going to happen, for two reason. One, I don’t have time. Two, I’m way too frank. As soon as something political happens, I’m going to want to rant. I can also be rather gripey about rude customers at times, and that’s just not professional.
So, the conclusion I came to is: this blog is for me. I’ll retreat to it when I can, and I don’t promise it will be life-changing, world-altering, or utterly inspiring. It’s just gonna be me.
That feels good. Cheers!

Lights a Fire Under Me Like Nothing Else

The surest fire way to get me to do something is to tell me not to do it, or even better, that it CAN’T be done.

A List of Things To Do Today

Somewhere, I read that the most successful, productive people start each day with a list of 3 to 5 things they want to accomplish that day. I’ve tried it before, and usually, it lasts about three days, and then I either quit, because there are things on the list that I haven’t been able to mark off, or I get super busy and forget. I guess, from that standpoint, it is a good way to kick start myself into action.

As an inspirational point, I’ve found a list of 50 Habits of Highly Successful People. Peruse at leisure.

Today, I’m going to need a jump start. We have had a loungey weekend. Yesterday, I watched, not kidding: Funny Girl, The Man in the Iron Mask, Forrest Gump, Michael Clayton. All before the Super Bowl. After the Super Bowl, I drank in what had to be the FUNNIEST episode of The Office. Ever. Laughing so hard there were tears streaming down my face. Hubs didn’t get it.

After a day of that much television, I really feel like I’m going to have to get moving to earn my keep. So, here’s my list for today:

  1. Bake and eat blueberry muffins for breakfast. (Start out with something easy, no?)
  2. Pick up all my clothes off the bedroom and closet floor. Hang them. (Too many wardrobe changes this weekend.)
  3. Business meeting at lunch.
  4. Clear inbox til the scroll bar goes away.
  5. Straighten office, organize papers, clear desk.

Now I have to stop. The rule is, you aren’t supposed to go over five things. And, those things all have to be conquerable within the day. Otherwise, the feeling of defeat sets in, and nothing gets accomplished.

Off to make muffins.

(Side note: the whole Movable Type installation thing is still really driving me crazy, and I know comments are still broken. Please forgive. It’s going to take a very sleepless night, and they’ll get fixed, but I just don’t want to dedicate precious daylight hours to fixing comments.)
